No seriously, stop reading this and go read them!

Okay, everyone's stumbled across Cyanide and Happiness, that biting comic series with stick men that kind of look like Terrence and Philip from South Park. The whole world knows about Garfield Minus Garfield, and even the guy who's been living in a cave for the last three years knows about Dinosaur Comics.

  1. Rice Boy [www.rice-boy.com]. This webcomic is immediately engaging, which is good because it's also epic. It's a kind of surreal, noir, sci-fi, philosophical tale. Our advice is go get a drink and settle in for a good long read.

  2. Hark! A Vagrant [harkavagrant.com]. Just the title of this one should get you in. Their coverage of classical tales like the Lady of Shalott are particularly good.

  3. Digger [diggercomic.com]. Want a sci-fi, Hugo-award-winning comic book series with a wombat as the main character? This one is clearly the best of all available options.

  4. Crawdads Welcome [crawdadswelcome.com/]. The single image creations of this author are more beautiful than interesting, but the comic strip is brilliant. Scathing social commentary meets expertly drawn ink wildlife sketches. It's one of those comics you just have to see.

  5. (@Dril)bert [drilbert.com]. Thought Garfield Minus Garfield was funny? Try Dilbert with all the dialogue replaced by random posts on Twitter. It's the kind of surreal that occasionally approaches reality.

  6. Spacetrawler [spacetrawler.com]. This comic is classic space opera meeting with weird graphics. It's also complete, meaning you get a satisfying conclusion to look forward to.

  7. Monster of the Week [/www.shaenon.com/monsteroftheweek]. This adorable madwoman has recreated the entire series of The X Files in webcomic form. We don't care if you judge us for including this comic on the list. Just go and read it.

  8. A Softer World [www.asofterworld.com]. Sick of comics that make you laugh gleefully until your work mates come over and interrogate you? This series is slightly less on the funny side, and more on the 'Oh my gods just leave me to die alone' heart-wrenching side of the comics industry.

  9. MS Paint Adventures [www.mspaintadventures.com]. What happens when you mix a choose-your-own-adventure with, we're guessing, a lot of alcohol and an edition of MS Paint? This comic, that's what. The adventures of this badly drawn stick figure detective are deceptively simple, and we issue a warning about the amount of time that can be spent on this site. It's amazing how easily you can get sucked in.

Oh, and the 'choosing' part of the 'choose your own adventure' element is entirely fictional. It's amazing how in control of the story it still makes you feel.

  10. The Adventures of Dr McNinja [drmcninja.com]. We saved the best for last. This comic is about a ninja who turns away from family tradition to become a doctor. Oh, and he has a gorilla for a receptionist. There are sharks.
